Privacy First

Privacy Policy

Your evidence never leaves your device.

Last updated: June 22, 2026·App: cc.nerdsnipe.proofnest·privacy@proofnest.app

The short version

  • Evidence data — photos, GPS, hashes — is stored on-device only.
  • No account required. No analytics. No advertising trackers.
  • AI letters send text to Anthropic only when you explicitly request it.
  • Blockchain sealing submits a hash (never photos) to the Bitcoin network.
  • Payments are handled by Apple or Google — we never see your card.

DATA STORAGE

Your evidence never leaves your device.

Cases, photos, GPS coordinates, timestamps, and SHA-256 hashes are stored exclusively in an on-device SQLite database. ProofNest has no backend server and makes no outbound connections unless you explicitly trigger a feature that requires one. Uninstalling the app removes all local data permanently.

PHOTOS & GPS

Photos are copied to local storage only.

When you capture evidence, ProofNest copies the photo to your device's private app directory and immediately computes a SHA-256 hash of the file. GPS coordinates are recorded from your device at the moment of capture and stored alongside the photo in the local database. Neither the photo nor its GPS data is transmitted anywhere. They are only included in PDF reports that you choose to export and share yourself.

AI DEMAND LETTERS — OPTIONAL

AI letters send text only — never photos.

The AI letter generator is an optional Pro feature. If you choose to use it, ProofNest sends the following to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com): your case name, case description, photo count, first and last documented dates, and the recipient name you entered. No photos, no GPS coordinates, and no hashes are sent — only the text fields needed to compose the letter. This transmission only occurs when you tap "Generate AI Letter." If you never use this feature, nothing is sent to Anthropic. Anthropic's privacy policy governs how they handle API request data.

BLOCKCHAIN TIMESTAMPING — OPTIONAL

A hash is anchored — not your photos.

When you tap "Seal on Bitcoin Blockchain," ProofNest computes a Merkle root — a single SHA-256 hash derived from the hashes of all your case photos — and submits that 32-byte value to the OpenTimestamps public calendar server (alice.btc.calendar.opentimestamps.org). This hash is a mathematical fingerprint; it cannot be used to reconstruct your photos or reveal any content. The hash is then permanently recorded in a Bitcoin transaction as a public timestamp. Once submitted to the blockchain, this record cannot be reversed — which is precisely what makes it tamper-proof. The hash and confirmation status are stored locally in the app.

IN-APP PURCHASES

Payments are handled entirely by Apple and Google.

ProofNest does not process, store, or transmit any payment information. All subscription and one-time purchase transactions are handled through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Your payment details never touch our systems. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy for how they handle purchase data.

NO ACCOUNT · NO TRACKING

We don't know who you are, and that's intentional.

ProofNest does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or sign in. We do not embed any analytics SDKs, advertising trackers, or usage telemetry. We have no visibility into how you use the app, which cases you create, or how many photos you take. No crash reporting is currently enabled. If this changes in a future update, this policy will be updated and the date below will reflect that change.

YOUR DATA RIGHTS

Delete anything, anytime — except blockchain records.

You can delete individual photos or entire cases at any time from within the app. Deleting a case removes all associated photos, GPS records, and hashes from your device. Uninstalling ProofNest removes all locally stored data. The one exception: SHA-256 hashes that have already been submitted to the Bitcoin blockchain are permanently recorded in that public ledger and cannot be reversed. This is a deliberate feature of the technology, not a limitation — it ensures the timestamp remains trustworthy indefinitely.

CHILDREN

ProofNest is not for children under 13.

ProofNest is designed for adults managing legal, property, or consumer disputes. We do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has used ProofNest in a way that transmitted data to a third-party service listed above, please contact us at privacy@proofnest.app.

Changes to this policy

We will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Continued use of ProofNest after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
